The History of Saab Automobile
Saab Automobile is a Swedish car manufacturer, with a long history creating innovative, safety conscious and well-built cars. The company was founded in 1947 and work began on creating the first Saab passenger car, the result was the 92001, which featured the lowest drag coefficient of any car at that time.
Fast forward a few years and Saab began to create an identity that was based around safety, turbo-charging and aeroplanes. General Motors bought the marque in 1990, however with the recent recession and the global economic climate, Saab started to struggle financially. GM decided to sell the brand in 2009, it seemed that the Swedish super car builder Koenigsegg would take the reins but the deal was cut short.
Spyker, a Dutch sports car firm then entered the frame and ultimately bought Saab from GM. This deal ensured the long term future of Saab and meant new cars and new innovations could continue to be made.
Current popular Saab models include the 9-3 and 9-5, both are rivals to the German BMW’s and Mercedes Benz, and are often referred to as a sensible choice when buying into the luxury saloon market.
Future models include a new 9-3 planned for 2013 and a second generation 9-5 sometime this year.
